My first hard surface model in Maya 😊

It was a great experience creating hard surface for the very first time. I have already modelled some character in previous module for my upcoming animation project which is based on freehand techniques and shapes are more flexible, irregular and realistic and complex. The purpose is to rig and animate the model.

But hard-surface modeling is a modeling technique used to model generally non-living objects that have smooth, static surfaces for example cars, armor, machines etc . This technique is greatly used to create environment, props and to create assets for video games because like weapons, robots, armor, machines, and structures etc.

Fun-fact

SUPPORTING EDGES plays an important role in hard surface modelling . We must use required edge loops to secure the edges to maintain a particular shape.

Little Tip

If we practicing shortcut keys can make the modelling process really easy and faster.

1. Using shift + right mouse button to add a CUBE

2. Quickly grab any editing tool hovering your cursor on the cube and shift + right mouse button then select the MULTI-CUT

3. Select faces and ctrl + E to extrude

4. Pressing G will allow you to extrude the selected faces again

5. press 3 for smooth preview and 1 for back to normal view.

6. Ctrl + B to add bevel.

7. Turn chamfer off. (Chamfer makes the edges slanted to an angle). After turning chamfer off u can adjust the fraction of the edges in the small pop-up menu.

If you want more info about shortcut keys or make them accessible add the below link in your favorites, Hope this will help.
